How to Use Rubber Test Plugs

Home > Documents > How to Use Rubber Test Plugs
Rubber test plugs are used in plumbing applications. These plugs have a screw-back fitting attached to a dense rubber cap, designed to fit snugly into the end of a pipe. These caps are inserted into the end of  the plug to temporarily seal it off. After new pipes have been installed, water fills the pipes to test for leaks. Once approved, the caps are removed and rest of the construction proceeds.

Instructions

1. Slide the test plug into the end of the pipe. It should fit snug, but not overly tight.

2. Push the plug up to the mark indicated on the mold, visable on the outside edge of the rubber.

3. Place the wrench over the toggle or other fitting on the top of the cap. Rotate the fitting until significant resistance is felt.

4. Turn on the water leading  to the pipe to be tested . Examine the length of  the pipe, especially at the joints to look for leaks.

5. Shut the water off and remove the cap, once your are satisfied with your results. Use the bucket to catch  the residual water in the pipe.
