BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW)- Action is now being taken to decrease congestion and hazardous fumes coming from the Peace Bridge.

Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy announced the beginning of the "Peace Bridge U.S. Widening Approach" Wednesday.

The $1.3 million project will add 200,000 square feet of approach space for U.S. bound vehicles.

It's also expected to improve the flow of traffic.

Construction on Phase 1 of the project is expected to begin in the Fall.

The entire widening project will cost about $13 million
