Culvert construction continues

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is currently replacing two large culverts on I-75 approximately 2.5 miles south of the M-28/I-75 intersection. Both northbound and southbound I-75 have been closed since May, with traffic being detoured to M-129 and Gaines Highway. The culverts are being replaced because they have reached the end of their useful service lives and are having maintenance problems. According to MDOT, the contractor, Team Elmer's, got a late start due to the late lifting of spring road weight restrictions. The anticipated project completion and re-opening of I-75 is now estimated for mid- to late July. This May 20 photo shows Team Elmer's excavating and installing sheet piling at the construction site.
