HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - Heavy and continued rains in northwestern Madison County have caused a construction delay for the new Blake Bottom Road bridge over Indian Creek.
The work was set to begin Thursday with detours set up for the duration of construction the next four months.
Contractors have delayed the start date to July 22 at the earliest, the Madison County Commission reported Wednesday afternoon.
The new start date is contingent on cooperative weather. This construction project will almost double the size of the existing bridge, built in the 1930s.
The current bridge is 28 feet wide by 48 feet long. The new bridge will be 48 feet wide and 113 feet long. Madison County District 4 Commission Phil Vandiver said almost 11,000 vehicles that daily drive across the bridge.
